THM Store Bought On Plan Bread

June 17, 2020 by Stacy Craft 1 Comment

A huge list of THM store bought on plan bread options that you can purchase at your local grocery store.

12 THM Store Bought Breads for the Drive Thru Sue

Lots of THM beginners want to know what kind of bread you can have that is on the Trim Healthy Mama plan.

And with that I mean what kind of store bought bread can you have. I mean, I’m not a drive thru Sue all the time but I’m also not Betty Crocker either.

You know that saying “the best thing since sliced bread?” It didn’t come about with busy mama’s making bread.

Nobody wants to have to make and slice their own bread. (OK, I actually want to & it is on my THM bucket list to grow one of those creepy sourdough starters in a mason jar on my counter, feed it and make my own beautiful loaf. But I am a working mama of 2 young kids. No time for now!)

Finding THM Store Bought Sprouted Bread At The Grocery

If you are looking at breads, the first ingredient should be a sprouted grain and there should be less than 2 grams of sugar (1 is preferred).

To save you the trouble of reading every bread label, here are some commonly used THM store bought on plan breads.

Need Store Bought On the Go THM snacks? Click Here!

Found at Most Large Grocery Chains (Walmart, Kroger, Target)

You may be able to find these at additional grocery stores but this is where I have found them in my area.

Ezekiel Sprouted Bread – Look for it in the freezer section (Kroger, Walmart, Target)

Silver Hills Sprouted Bread (Target, Sprouts, Whole Foods)

Pepperidge Farms Soft Sprouted Bread (Target, Kroger, Walmart)

Greenwise Sprouted Multi-Grain Bread (Publix Bakery)

Simple Truth Sprouted Grain & Legume Bread (Kroger)

Found Primarily at Specialty Stores (Aldi, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Costco)

Knock Your Sprouts Off Bread (Aldi)

Sly Red Ancient Grains (Aldi)

Trader Joe’s Sprouted Sourdough

Alvarado St. Bakery Sprouted Bread (Whole Foods, Natural Grocers)

Angelic Sprouted Bread (Sprouts, Costco, The Fresh Market)

THM On Plan Store Bought Sourdough Bread

Trim Healthy Mama on plan store bought sourdough can be hard to find but it is possible.

Here is the sourdough criteria:

  • First Ingredient should be Whole Grain
  • Yeast should NOT be in the ingredients

Trader Joe’s has an on plan sourdough. You may also find an on plan sourdough at some specialty store bakeries like Sprouts or Whole Foods.

Serving Size & Fuel Type

Bread is a carb source so traditionally it is going to be used in “E” Meals.

E Meal Bread Serving Size : 2 Slices

But if you want to get crazy, you can also have some bread with “S” foods. Wait, what?!

You mean to tell me I could have a piece of cheese toast? Or I could sop up a nice runny egg with a piece of toast?

Yes Ma’am! This is called an S Helper. It is when you go over the carb limit for an S meal but don’t add enough carbs to move into XO (crossover) territory.

S Helper Bread Serving Size: 1 Slice

If you have more than 1 piece of bread with other S foods, you would move into XO territory.

The Exception To The Rule

If you have an Aldi near you, they have a relatively new product Zero Net Carb bread.

Here is a picture of it & a review from the Aldi Reviewer.

I have tried it and I like it. If you get this bread, you can eat it in an S meal and keep it in S territory (no S helper or XO). I like having that option.

*Note: The THM team calls this one a personal choice. It is not for the purists at heart but I’m definitely not that.

How to Eat (& Like) Sprouted Bread

If you have not eaten sprouted bread before it does take a little adjusting to. Especially if you are coming from a super soft white bread.

So what is the key to liking sprouted bread?

I have found that toasting the bread is my favorite way to eat it. I honestly don’t care for ANY of the sprouted breads that I have tried fresh out of the bag (and I have tried a lot).

But toast it up in the toaster and it is great with on plan peanut butter, Light Laughing Cow Cheese, Polaner’s jelly or sandwich fixins like this THM E tuna salad.

THM On Plan Store Bought Wraps

June 22, 2020 by Stacy Craft 2 Comments

Trim Healthy Mama gets a lot easier when you can eliminate some of the cooking and use on plan, store bought options.

This list is full of THM on plan store bought wraps and tortillas.

14 Store bought THM Wraps and Tortillas

The hardest thing to me about lowering carbs in a meal is that there is nothing to wrap your food up in.

Because lets be honest, when we are short on time what do we grab? A quick sandwich, a burger or a wrap is easy and portable for eating on the run.

But what do you do on THM?

Well there are actually quite a few options! And don’t worry, I’m not going to tell you that your only option is a lettuce wrap.

While I can deal with a lettuce wrap sometimes, there are situations where you want something a little heartier than that. So I’ve got you covered on yummy and satisfying THM on plan store bought wraps for sandwiches and other fillings.

THM On Plan Store Bought Wraps

Here is something weird about most of the Trim Healthy Mama wrap options. Most of them are Fuel Pull’s.

And just about every beginner has a hard time wrapping their brain around that. Because it seems like they should be an “E.”

Also, most of the FP wraps are also frankenfoods. That means you should limit your consumption of those items.

Typically people say once or twice a week. I have overdone it on these on more than one occasion. I feel like they are better than a couple of big slices of white bread.

But the recommendation is there so follow it as you see fit.

THM FP Wraps

Roll up on THM APproved Wrap

Joseph’s Lavash Bread* – Limit to 1/2 a sheet in any setting.

Joseph’s Pita Bread* – 1 whole pita in any setting

Mission Carb Balance Tortillas* – Flour, Whole Wheat or Spinach

Egg Thins with Cauliflower

Flatout Light* – Make sure you get the Light.

Plant Power Sandwich Thins

Ole Xtreme Wellness*

La Banderita Low Carb Tortillas*

Lettuce Wraps – This is my least favorite! But including it in case you are better than me at pretending it is bread.

*Indicates Frankenfood or Personal Choice

THM S Wraps

Folios Cheese Wraps

THM E Wraps

Angelic 7 Sprouted Wrap

Sprouted Corn Tortillas

Where to buy the THM Tortillas and Flatbreads

Lavash Lasagna Cups

Most of the items listed above can be found at normal grocery stores (Walmart, Kroger, HEB, Target Superstores).

The cheese wraps and the egg thins have both been spotted at Aldi from time to time.

And some of the specialty stores (Sprouts, Whole Foods etc) have some of the more specialty items like the Angelic sprouted wrap or the sprouted corn tortillas.

If you live in an area that has limited access to these, you can order direct from many of these companies on their website or of course on Amazon.

For example, the Walmart near me that normally carries Joseph’s products was out for several weeks in a row. So I ordered directly on the Joesph’s site and just got enough for free freight. The product freezes. well.

More Trim Healthy Mama Bread Options

You can read the store bought bread list here.

There are also a few other products from the grocery that you may enjoy.

Smart Buns  – FP

Ezekiel English Muffins

Ezekiel Cinnamon Raisin Bread – this is one that you are encouraged to keep at 2 slices and limit your usage because of the dried fruit. But I love cinnamon raisin bread and love having an option that is better than what I would otherwise buy.

THM Store Bought Desserts

December 7, 2020 by Stacy Craft Leave a Comment

Looking for easy THM store bought desserts that you can grab at your local grocery store or on Amazon?

This huge list will give you tons of options that you can treat yourself with while staying on plan and not having to bake a thing.

23 Store Bought THM Desserts

If you have been on THM for a little bit, you may be seeking some easy ideas for sweet treats after a meal. One of the fun things about Trim Healthy Mama is that you can have your cake and eat it too!

And while there on tons of treats that you can make at home, sometimes an on plan store bought dessert is just what you need to make it through. Eat it at home, keep some in your purse or at the office to always be able to make good choices when that sweet tooth hits.

(Affiliate Links are used in this post. A small commission may be paid to me at no extra cost to you and that helps to support this page. Please see my disclosures page for additional information.)

THM Store Bought Desserts

I struggled with whether or not I should write this post. Mostly because I don’t want to discourage you from trying the plan because a lot of these items listed are expensive when you compare them to their sugar filled alternative.

However, I have a few comments on this. #1. These THM store bought desserts are not meant to be binged on. And while you may see people eating a slice of Trimtastic cake for breakfast, I use these treats for what they are – treats.

Have the recommended serving size after a meal or as a snack for something to satisfy your sweet tooth as needed.

#2. When you follow the portion control for these desserts, the cost works out to be reasonable. For example, I usually find that a Lily’s chocolate bar in my town is $3.99 not on sale. You get 4 servings from that bar. So while $4 for a chocolate bar seems steep, $1 per serving isn’t too bad.

So please don’t be discouraged by these prices! If you can’t afford the store bought items, there are plenty of things that you can make that are on plan and less expensive.

Also, it isn’t like I have all of these THM store bought desserts at my house at one time. Normally I might by a couple of items per week. Do what works for you, your family & your grocery budget.

And what you have been waiting for, here is the list of Trim Healthy Mama treats that you can buy at the store!

Holidays with young kids are some of my favorite times. Seeing the excitement with all the decorations and fun treats warms a mama’s heart. But if you have young kids at home, you know that time thing is not always abundant.

You may have high hopes of creating homemade chocolate cupcakes with perfectly hand rolled witch hats made of fondant. But then the 4 year old wants to play barbies, the 10 year old needs to go to basketball practice and the baby needs to well, eat.

So your Halloween cupcake dreams are momentarily crushed. Now you are staring at the grocery store shelves looking for something easy and also cute (probably with a toddler screaming at your feet).

To make the Halloween season go a little smoother, we have collaborated with some great bloggers to bring you 9 store bought Halloween party foods to make in less than 5 minutes!

9 Store Bought Halloween Party Foods to Make in Less than 5 Minutes

My kids probably get more excited about a Halloween Oreo than they would about any fancy dessert that I could create. Note that I said “would.” Elaborate desserts are a thing I enjoyed before kids. No bake, done in 5 minutes are a little more my style these days. Especially since little man has decided to learn to walk and is in to everything.

Here are 9 store bought Halloween party foods to make for your kids school party. These are also great for a fun October lunch or dinner treat.

Mummy Snack Cakes I can’t believe how much these look like a tiny mummy and it took me no time at all to make thanks to my BFF, her name is Little Debbie.

Easy No Bake Halloween Mummy Snack Cake

Ghost Snack Cakes A simple ghost face on a delicious white chocolate ding dong is sure to make your kid smile.

Pumpkin Cupcakes These are great because they are not spooky at all. Perfect for a school or church fall harvest party.

Harvest Party No Bake Pumpkin Cupcakes

Spooky Eyeball Sandwich  by Kimspired DIY – Such a fun lunch option for the Halloween season! I make a million PB&J’s a month so why not make it into an eyeball!

Jack O Lantern Mandarin Orange Cups by Mission to Save – Fruit disguised in a Halloween costume is always welcome at my house. Sugar sure is fun but gosh the kids get so much of it this time of year. I want to put these in the lunchbox for school.

Halloween Witch Hat Cookies  by Princess Pinky Girl – These cute witch cookies have an oreo base and just four ingredients.

Vampire Donuts by the Happy Family Blog –  I know my kids would love the donuts but the bagel idea is another great way to add some Halloween fun to your table with a low sugar item.

Pudding Bat by The Inspiration Edit –  These pudding bats are so adorable! If you need a prepackaged item for a class party, this is a unique dessert to send.

Ghost Cheese Sticks & Jack O Lantern Cuties by Sizzling Eats – Great non-candy options to put in a lunch box that are still fun and festive.

I hope these 9 store bought Halloween party foods to make in less than 5 minutes help to get you time for an extra cup of coffee (oh & make your kids super happy)!

If you need some items to send for the class goody bag or your trunk or treat event, check out 31 non-candy Halloween treats and 16 Halloween favors that won’t get trashed.

Oatmeal Cream Pie Turkey Treat

November 19, 2018 by Stacy Craft Leave a Comment

Your kids can create an easy oatmeal cream pie turkey treat after Thanksgiving dinner. The DIY turkey dessert is fun and simple to set up for the kids to enjoy.

Oatmeal Cream Pie Thanksgiving Turkey Dessert - An easy DIY treat for kids to make

How is Thanksgiving already here? Last year I had just had a baby and I don’t think I really cared what holiday it was because I was so tired. But this year I decided to get ambitious and host our family Thanksgiving for 15 people. So while I am trying to figure out how to brine a turkey fun activities like this oatmeal cream pie turkey treat will be occupying my 4 year old.

We did a test run on this easy to make turkey dessert a few weeks ago. My daughter had lots of fun arranging the colorful feathers on her cute little turkey.

Oatmeal Cream Pie Turkey Treat

I was in a turkey breakfast theme earlier this month. Turkey shaped Bagels with Apple feathers and Turkey shaped Eggs in a basket were hits at the breakfast table. We love fun shaped food! So we expanded to a cute after school treat with this oatmeal cream pie turkey treat dessert.

You could even set up a little oatmeal cream pie turkey treat station for the kids to make after Thanksgiving dinner. So while you are eating your favorites like 5 minute caramel pie or pumpkin cheesecake, the kids can DIY their own sweet turkey.

What You Need:

Oatmeal Cream Pie

Airheads

Candy Eyes

Candy Corn

Store Bought Ingredients for oatmeal cream pie turkey treat DIY Thanksgiving dessert for kids

Store bought desserts with a holiday twist became a favorite of ours over Halloween. They are so easy and provide a no bake way to get kids involved in the kitchen. The steps to make these oatmeal cream pie turkey treats are very simple.

I prepped everything, gave my 4 year old some guidance on how it would look and then let her get to work. To prep the oatmeal cream pie, take a knife and gently separate the two cookie pieces. Just do it carefully since the oatmeal cookies are very soft.

Cut up the air heads to make smaller feathers. I used leftover Halloween candy for this part!

Oatmeal Cream Pie Separated with Airhead Turkey Feathers Set Up

Now just have your kids arrange the feathers. Replace the top oatmeal cookie and create a turkey face. The candy corn is the nose and I cut a tiny piece of a red airhead for the turkey gobbler.

Here is my little one working very seriously on her oatmeal cream pie turkey treat after Mother’s Day Out one day.

Making an easy Oatmeal Cream Pie Turkey Treat

My little one had fun making these quick and easy turkey treats. Would your kids enjoy making this?
