Red, White & Blue Sugar Cookie Parfait

June 24, 2020 by Stacy Craft Leave a Comment

Looking for a patriotic dessert? This red, white & blue sugar cookie parfait is tasty, festive and fun for the kids.

Red, White & Blue Sugar Cookie Yogurt Parfaits for kids

The other day I brought home a package of red, white and blue sprinkles from the grocery store that I saw and wanted to do something with.

My kids saw them and it was seriously the equivalent of someone telling me that I just got a free 3 week vacation to Europe. They were thrilled.

All over a $2 bottle of sprinkles. I love kids.

So I told them that they could help me make some kind of fun dessert and we came up with this easy red, white & blue sugar cookie parfait.

Red, White & Blue Sugar Cookie Parfait

Sugar Cookie, Strawberry and Greek Yogurt Mini Trifles

These dessert cups are layered with store bought sugar cookies, vanilla Greek yogurt, and fresh strawberries.

To finish them off and add the blue, we added a bit of whipped cream and sprinkled the holiday sprinkles.

It is a fun treat to involve the kids in the kitchen but without having to use the stove. My 2 year old even made his (with a little help because if left alone he would have chosen the bottle of sprinkles and skipped the yogurt).

What You Need:

To make the red, white & blue sugar cookie parfaits, you need just 5 ingredients.

  • Store Bought Mini Sugar Cookies
  • Vanilla Greek Yogurt – The Greek God’s Honey Vanilla is my fave.
  • Fresh Strawberries, Diced
  • Reddi Whip
  • Red, White & Blue 4th of July Sprinkles

Blueberries would also be great to add some extra blue but I forgot those this trip!

Ingredients for the Patriotic Sugar Cookie, Strawberry and Yogurt Dessert

Assembling the Mini Dessert Cups

I gave each of the kids a set of ingredients and then they made their mini cookie and yogurt trifles by listening to my instructions.

It was fun to get the kids involved in the kitchen without having to use the stove or anything sharp. All they need is a spoon to make these treats!

They were assembled in these mini trifle/parfait cups because everything tastes better when presented well, right?

Making the Cookie And Yogurt Dessert Cups

First layer, sugar cookie.

2nd layer, a few spoonfuls of the vanilla greek yogurt.

3rd layer, diced strawberries. You could add blueberries too.

4th and most important layer, sprinkles!

Repeat the layers again.

Top the final layer of strawberries with a big dollop of whipped cream and sprinkles!

Modifications for Kids & Adults

For the kids, I skipped the 2nd cookie layer. So they had one mini sugar cookie, yogurt, berries, sprinkles, yogurt, berries, whipped cream & sprinkles.

My children are young and I really just didn’t want them having 2 cookies after dinner. They didn’t notice.

Eating the Red White & Blue Sugar Cookie Dessert Cup

Neither my husband or myself are big sprinkle lovers. So I made ours as written above but skipped the middle sprinkle layer.

You can really modify these red, white and blue sugar cookie parfaits to match your family’s likes.

Boxed Macaroni and Cheese Protein Hack

Easy boxed macaroni and cheese protein hack to make your kid’s favorite meal a little healthier.

Protein hack for boxed mac n cheese

Do you remember before you had kids and the thoughts that would go through your head? My kid will NEVER act like that in public. My child will never leave toys all over my living room. My little one will eat a balanced diet and will not be one of those that only eats chicken nuggets and mac n cheese.

It is pure entertainment to think back on those “my child will never” statements from my pre-kid years. And now as a mama, I work on things like making a boxed macaroni and cheese protein hack to ensure that these little tiny children get something good into their bellies.

Providing Kids with Proper Nutrients is Hard

My 4 year old only started eating meat within the last few months. I spent months trying to get her to try meat and she just did not want to. Her gag reflex is on point and the texture really got to her. So I slathered peanut butter on everything and prayed that she was getting the nutrients that she needed. Yes, I got one of those picky eaters that I swore I would never allow pre-motherhood.

One food that I could not figure out how to pile high with peanut butter was her beloved mac n cheese. Now I know that we can probably name off 1000 things that we would rather feed our kids than boxed mac n cheese. But, we are moms and know that a box of that cheesy goodness makes it to our table fairly often.

When choosing convenience foods, I like to look for the healthiest possible choice that the grocery store has to offer. Annie’s Organic Macaroni and Cheese  is a choice that I feel good about feeding my family. And even better, I found the answer to my need for protein in the pasta right on the back of the box!

Boxed Macaroni and Cheese Protein Hack

Increasing the amount of protein in your boxed macaroni in cheese is so simple and your kids will not even notice the change.

Boil your pasta as instructed on the package. Drain the pasta into a colander and set aside.

Next add the butter and cheese packet to your warm pot. Now here is your boxed macaroni and cheese protein hack, sub the milk for 3 tablespoons of greek yogurt. By adding this yogurt, you are adding in additional grams of protein to the mac and cheese entree.

Protein is so important to help kids stay full longer. Which reduces that snack, snack, snack commentary that I know you are tired of hearing all day. Every day.

See you could never tell by looking at it (or tasting it) that you have it packed with good for you greek yogurt.

My kid will eat 3 square meals and won’t eat goldfish all day long. -Former Self, Year 2012.

I hope this boxed macaroni and cheese protein hack helps you to make a small change to make your kids meals a little healthier.
